Being at any well known destination at the right time can provide some very unique images. A popular summer attraction filled with swimmers, hikers and campers was transformed into a winter wonderland after a lite snowfall. Johnson’s Shut-Ins is one of the most popular of Missouri’s State Parks. Setting in the rugged Ozark terrain of the St. Francois Mountains and in the Black River valley, it was once the home of the early Scots-Irish settlers. The changing seasons continually transform the rushing river, unique geology and pristine blue spring into a tranquil landscape.

The power of observation is a vital element for us in the visual communication field.  The ability to notice the world around us and communicate a message or feeling through our media is a true gift. It is one of our senses.  For photographers it is often referred to as our “eye”.   The ability to see and capture the parts of a whole helps the viewer see through our eye. This is one such image.  It was captured on a fall day at one of my favorite scenes. This was taken in a urban park with a historic pagoda surrounded by a mote. The reflection of the copper topped bandstand and the red maple trees is an eye-catching scene which is meant to communicate a sense of tranquility.

BackYard Art

Dogwood blossoms in the rain are among my favorite subjects. Being on of the first flowers of spring they bring a sign of hope and new beginnings. This photo was taken early on a April morning during a cool spring rain. I still smell and feel that rain when I view this image.
